Sigiriya
Sigiriya sits in the centre of Sri Lanka's Cultural Triangle, where the 5th century Lion Rock fortress rises 200 metres above the jungle. It is the base for village experiences, sunrise hikes, elephant safaris and day trips to Dambulla and Polonnaruwa.
Hidden Gems
- Pidurangala Rock at sunrise gives the best view of Lion Rock itself.
- Hiriwadunna village, with bullock cart rides and a lakeside lunch.
- Evening jeep safaris to Minneriya or Eco Park to see wild elephants.
Best Time to Visit
January to April and June to September are the driest months. Start the rock climb by 7 am to avoid the midday heat.
