Kandy
Set among forested hills around a calm lake, Kandy was the last royal capital of Sri Lanka. Today it is the island's cultural heart, with the sacred Temple of the Tooth, colourful Hindu devales, botanic gardens and evening dance performances.
Hidden Gems
- Sunset over the lake from the Arthur's Seat viewpoint.
- The quiet Hindu devales next to the Temple of the Tooth.
- Morning walks in the Udawattakele forest reserve.
Best Time to Visit
January to April is driest. Late July or August brings the Esala Perahera, the island's grandest festival, so book early.
